Professional Experience

Iowa State University Department of Music
1999 - Present
Chief Recording Engineer

At ISU we do nearly 150 performances a year, of which I'm the lead classical engineer for the vast majority. We also broadcast every show on the internet, as well as a multi-camera shoot to DVD. I also do technical consulting and installation.

Maintenance Shop
2000 - 2003
FOH Engineer

My tenure at the 'Shop was one of great fondness. During the regular season, the shop would do six to seven shows a week. I had the opportunity to work with Jack Johnson, Son Seals, Shemekia Copeland, Second City, and many, many, many more.

Pro Sound Ames
2002 - 2005
FOH/Mon/Stage Engineer

Pro-Sound is a sound reinforcement company in Ames. They were large enough to get the national acts, but small enough that we didn't have to travel out of state. Long days, but a great experience. Another jack-of-all trades kind of gig. I distinctly remembering every type of condition being encountered: rain, wind, scorching heat, snow, riots to name a few.

Dawghouse Recording Studios
2004 - 2006
Chief Recording Engineer

The Dawghouse was a studio between Ames and Nevada that I worked at with Dennis Haislip. We worked on a ton of projects encompassing many genres. In 2005 I left to return to Des Moines to take a job with SR Audio.

SR Audio
2006-2007
Recording Engineer

At SR I filled nearly every roll in the studio. I would repair gear, engineer sessions, assist senior engineers, master finished mixes, and head up remote recordings. I left SR Audio to co-engineer with Steve Capp when SR fell on to hard times.

Capp Audio Productions
2007 - Present
Recording Engineer

Education

School of Hard Knocks
Current

While most people consider this a joke, I'd postulate that I've learned more about the music industry by doing (and sometimes failing) than from anywhere else.

Iowa State University
B.S. Journalism (Electronic Media - Broadcast)

1998 - 2002

I also have a minor in music and computer science.

Aspen Music Festival
Edgar Stanton Audio Recording Institute

2001

A classical recording series held every year in Aspen, CO. I'd highly recommend it.

Internship with Director Dan Mundt - Damaged
2002

During the summer of 2002 I got the chance to work on an indy film with Dan Mundt. Here I learned the art of dollying and jib control.

Original Works

D.D. Sparks - Remixes and live arrangements
2008-2010

I spend a few years working with D.D. Sparks as his music director for live shows. I remixed and arranged a fair amount of his catalogue.

Milkwar - Live
Web Release
2007

A few of my clients asked me to fill in on bass guitar for a gig. The rub: I don't really play bass guitar, and I only knew their songs from engineering them. Fun!!!

Twistin' Trees - The Sound the Band Makes
Audio CD
2005

I played keys on this record as well as co-produced it with Dave Schwerdtfeger.

Dan Mundt - Damaged
Score
2002

I wrote the vast majority of the score for this film. Especially daunting given that there was no dialog.

Dan Mundt - Escape Velocity
Score (Selections)
2003

The director revisited this film and wanted a few new queues, so I obliged.
